“Samsara” \u00e8 il secondo lavoro dei Black Willows<\/b>, formazione svizzera di ottimo gusto e tempismo. Quasi tre anni sono durate ricerca dei fondi e realizzazione delle 6 tracce \u2013 lunghe, ossessive e dal respiro pesante sulla giugulare \u2013 di questo disco ben fatto e pi\u00f9 che discreto, che svetta in alto nella mia personale classifica del 2016 musicale.
\nParlandoci chiaro, la scena “stoner-psych” bla bla bla, \u00e8 sempre pi\u00f9 satura e non se ne pu\u00f2 pi\u00f9. Diventa difficile discernere un buon disco da un ammiccamento pubblicitario, da una trovata sorniona \u00e0 la “female fronted band” e via discorrendo.
\nHo ricevuto anche questa volta il disco per posta. All’antica. Un disco leggero, dalla grafica minimale. Dai contenuti precisi e insieme affabulatori. Le influenze sono quelle che sono: solo influenze. Il gusto traspare tra le note di ogni pezzo, in una spirale di fumo che passa dai Tool di fine anni ’90 all’amore per l’Oriente, finendo nel tipico oscuro lato dell’Europa (Electric Wizard, Cathedral, a tratti My Dying Bride), sebbene l’album sia stato registrato e masterizzato negli Stati Uniti (da Erik Wofford ai Cacophony Recorders di Austin, in Texas).
\n“Morning Star” occupa lo spazio mentale e metaforico in un mantra nero che dura anche formalmente la met\u00e0 del lavoro. “Mountain” alza il livello creativo con un riff potente. Adorabilmente melanconico \u00e8 il leitmotiv che trafigge “Samsara”, dove la poetica del male si accosta al decadentismo minimale della modernit\u00e0.
\nUn passo indietro \u2013 cronologicamente parlando \u2013 che spiega la qualit\u00e0 della musica stessa, lontana quanto basta dalla nuova ondata face psichedelica degli ultimi anni. Solve et coagula.<\/p>\n

I remember \u2013 as if it were yesterday \u2013 that moment I’ve found the letter from Aleister Crowley in my mailbox. At the time I lived (in) Berlin. It was a bit weird, but an absolutely awesome feeling run through my spine. The same feeling I’ve felt under the palms of the hands, when (this time in Cologne) I’ve found my copy of “Samsara” at the bottom of my dark green metal box. I actually appreciated a lot kind of kind people. And Black Willows<\/b> are both talented musicians, gentle raw souls (as it can be seen and heard) and kind spokespersons.
\n“Samsara” is the sophomore I was waiting for, this year. I read through the lines of a couple of social networks, the guys were trying to fund themselves since the debut of “Haze” (their first work, I reviewed for Perkele three years ago). Six tracks. Long tracks, as the concept itself demands. And the old-fashioned \u2013 in a positive way \u2013 taste of Black Willows strikes again. This work reminds me of a strange “crossroad” company, I think.
\nThe devil whispers \u2013 Triton somehow \u2013 the obsessive instrumental parts. Delayed, slow and heavy megaphone reverberates in a cloudy bowl of gloomy (although shining) smoke. Something between “Aenema” \u2013 the 1996 masterpiece of Tool, and the whole Electric Wizard taste crawls and climbs from the depth with a little help of Lee Dorrian and Aaron Stainthorpe. Even a soft Wave, a thin line between a fine European taste of distortions and an obscure mantra culture of bold hallucinations, which blows indeed from the extreme east.
\nBest moments can be found in “Mountain” (officially the best riff of the album), “Jewel in the Lotus” (15 very intense and summarizing minutes) and “Sin” (8 minutes long precious little gem), even if the Devil came out and played his tricks during the “Morning Star” minstrel flavoured mantra. Dark clarity and spontaneous refined decay, are the keys of this black geometrical outcome.
