Un gruppo di culto tra i fan del depressive sound, in quanto i nostri furono tra i primi (i loro esordi risalgono al lontano 1993) a seguire la strada tracciata dai primi Cathedral e, soprattutto, dalla coppia finlandese Unholy e Thergothon: ovvero doom metal lentissimo e sepolcrale, musica in grado di dare profonde sensazioni di disperazione all\u2019ascoltatore.\u201cThe monad of creation\u201d presenta il gruppo in forma, e le canzoni, pur lunghissime (la title track sfiora i 20 minuti) non risultano mai dispersive, ma sono anzi compatte nel loro infinito senso di tristezza ed abbandono. I Mournful Congregation potrebbero essere definiti come dei My Dying Bride al rallentatore (sembra incredibile, ma \u00e8 cos\u00ec!); specialmente l\u2019ottimo lavoro delle chitarre riporta infatti alle atmosfere contenute nei dischi del gruppo inglese, vista anche l\u2019alternanza fra porzioni arpeggiate, lugubri riff e tragiche linee soliste, vero marchio di fabbrica del gothic doom di scuola inglese. Solo che poi il gruppo australiano ammanta tutto in un\u2019atmosfera dannatamente funebre ed \u00e8 difficile, se non impossibile, riuscire a scorgere la luce in fondo al tunnel nel quale i Mournful Congregation gettano l\u2019ascoltatore. Un gruppo affine, specialmente per intenti, possono essere i nostri Void Of Silence, in particolar modo per l\u2019attitudine assolutamente apocalittica che regna sovrana in ogni nota di quest\u2019album.
