Tempo di live album per i Queens Of The Stone Age, un disco forse pubblicato per riportare in auge il nome della band, che con l\u2019ultimo \u201cLullabies to paralize\u201d non era riuscita a bissare il successo ottenuto dal precedente \u201cSongs for the deaf\u201d. I Queens Of The Stone Age sono un gruppo che fin dall\u2019omonimo esordio ha mostrato una natura ambivalente: da un lato Josh Homme ha mostrato pi\u00f9 volte la voglia di sperimentare sonorit\u00e0 e soluzioni inusuali in un contesto rock, dall\u2019altra il chitarrista si \u00e8 ben guardato dall\u2019abbandonare completamente lo stile inconfondibile del suo gruppo precedente (i mitici Kyuss).<\/p>\n

In parole povere, il nostro ha sempre voluto tenere i piedi in due scarpe, ovvero acquistare nuovi fan senza rinunciare a quelli legati al sound desertico di Kyuss. Altra cosa che a molti risulta inspiegabile \u00e8 la mania che Josh ha avuto (dal secondo album in poi) di coinvolgere sempre pi\u00f9 musicisti\/compositori all\u2019interno del gruppo, per arrivare oggi ad una formazione a cinque elementi, dei quali almeno uno (la tastierista Natasha Shneider) risulta totalmente inutile\/superfluo.<\/p>\n

Questo live (e soprattutto il dvd allegato, molto ben realizzato), registrato alla Brixton Academy di Londra il 22 agosto 2005, mostra infatti come sia la chitarra di Josh a sorreggere per almeno l\u201980% l\u2019economia delle canzoni; \u00e8 il nostro a fare il bello e cattivo tempo, a seconda del suo umore e dell\u2019ispirazione. E allora si rimpiange la formazione originaria della band, il classico trio rock (e Joey Castillo, pur essendo un discreto batterista, non \u00e8 nemmeno lontanamente paragonabile ad Alfredo Hernadez).<\/p>\n

La scaletta live pesca da tutta la discografia del gruppo, e cos\u00ec si passa dalla produzione pi\u00f9 recente e mainstream (la mediocre \u201cLittle sister\u201d conferma, anche in sede live, la sua pochezza) alle canzoni degli esordi, fra le quali spiccano le robuste \u201cRegular John\u201d, \u201cMexicola\u201d e l\u2019ottima ballata psichedelica \u201cYou can\u2019t quit me, baby\u201d. Un album che conferma i Queens come una discreta live band, nulla comunque in confronto ai Kyuss, capaci di dare ben altre emozioni e sensazioni.<\/p>\n
