L’esperienza al Welcome to<\/strong>\u00a0Rockville 2021<\/strong> di Daytona \u00e8 andata oltre le nostre aspettative per qualit\u00e0 e quantit\u00e0 delle proposte. Per il lungo weekend di concerti abbiamo optato per questione di tempo per le prime due giornate: quelle dell’11 e del 12 novembre.<\/p>\n

In primo luogo merita la segnalazione una location davvero fuori dal comune<\/strong>: un circuito automobilistico modello Imola, acchittato con tre palchi e una ruota panoramica nel bel mezzo. Un po\u2019 di stand vari a base culinaria e alcolica, tra cui due stand con merchandising dei Grateful Dead , giusto per rendere chiara l’idea di cos’\u00e8 il rock in America, e in particolare al Rockville.<\/p>\n

Avendo annotato diverse band prima di partire, oltre gli headliner, appena arrivati ci siamo piazzati sotto il palco per vedere i Brass Against<\/strong>. Per chi non sapesse dell’accaduto, la cantante ha inscenato un piccolo teatrino d’avanguardia urinando (volontariamente) su uno spettatore. All’inizio della scenetta la cosa non ci era ben chiara (eravamo comunque a una cinquantina di metri dal palco, causa Covid) ma poi uno spettatore vicino, ridente e agitato ci ha confermato i nostri sospetti: gli sta pisciando addosso! Non male come inizio.<\/p>\n

La serata \u00e8 poi continuata con una eccellente esibizione dei Cypress Hill<\/strong>, che hanno portato avanti uno show pieno di groove degno del miglior James Brown oltre che di joint in bella mostra (sul palco e tra gli spettatori), percussioni e beats (notevole il batterista nel beattare con gli scratch di DJ Lord dei Public Enemy). Finale della serata con Slipknot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Per la seconda giornata ho avuto finalmente il piacere di vedere i Social Distortion<\/strong> dal vivo. Mick Ness \u00e8 l’essenza del rock and roll, canta e racconta \u00a0vecchie storie di provincia, di un uomo che \u00e8 stato per tutta la vita un ‘ass-hole’, tra errori, sbagli e sterzate: \u00e8 evidente che i SD hanno perso (gi\u00e0 da un po\u2019) la vecchia furia punk per accomodarsi su un rock’n’roll adulto incrociando al meglio i vecchi Stones e Johnny Cash. Aprono in fatti l’esibizione con Under My Thumb<\/em> dei primi, chiudono con Ring of Fire<\/em> del secondo, nel mezzo vecchi inni generazionali a firma SD.<\/p>\n

Chiusura massiccia con i Metallica<\/strong>: che dire, saranno vecchi ma dal vivo mostrano sempre un certo fascino spaziando in un repertorio che tocca quattro decenni. L’apertura con Whiplash<\/em> \u00e8 sicuramente una dichiarazione d’intenti, cos\u00ec come le esecuzioni di Harvest of Sorrow<\/em> e Fight Fire With Fire<\/em>. Alcune canzoni dell’ultimo ventennio mi hanno piacevolmente colpito (Moth Into Flame<\/em>), altre mi hanno lasciato perplesso. Piacevoli le sorprese da Reload<\/em> (The\u00a0Memory Remains<\/em>, Fuel<\/em>) e chiusura d’assalto con Seek & Destroy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Cala il sipario, di corsa con un taxi Huber verso la stazione del Greyound per continuare a vivere l’America da outsider, fuori dai soliti giri. Il rock and roll \u00e8 un affare loro, nulla da dire! L\u2019appuntamento con il Rockeville 2022 \u00e8 a maggio: con Kiss, Korn, Guns N’ Roses e Foo Fighters gi\u00e0 confermati.<\/p>\n

The experience at the Welcome to Rockville 2021<\/strong> in Daytona went beyond our expectations for the quality and quantity of the proposals. For the long weekend of concerts we opted for time reasons for the first two days: those of 11 and 12 November.<\/p>\n

First of all, a truly out of the ordinary location<\/strong>, an ‘Imola’ model race track, met with three stages and a Ferris wheel in the middle. A bit of various booths based on food and alcohol, including two stands with Grateful Dead merchandising, just to make clear the idea of \u200b\u200bwhat rock is in America.<\/p>\n

Having noted a bunch of bands before leaving, besides the headliners, as soon we arrived we stood under the stage to see Brass Against<\/strong>. For those who do not know what happened, the singer staged a small avant-garde theater urinating (willingly) on a spectator. At the beginning of the scene it was not clear to us (we were still about 50 meters from the stage, due to Covid rules) but then a close guy, laughing and upset, confirmed our suspicions: she was pissing on him! Not a bad start.<\/p>\n

The evening then continued with an excellent performance by Cypress Hill<\/strong>. They carried on a show full of worthy grooves \u00e0 la James Brown as well as joint on display (stage and audience), percussion and beats (the drummer \/ percussionist notable in beating with the scratches of DJ Lord from Public Enemy). End of the evening with Slipknot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For the second day I finally had the pleasure of seeing Social Distortion<\/strong> live. Mick Ness is the essence of rock and roll, he sings and tells old stories of American life, of a man who has been an ‘ass-hole’ all his life, between mistakes and swerves. It is evident that the SD have lost (for a while already) the old punk fury to sit on an adult ‘rock and roll’ by crossing the old Stones and Johnny Cash at their best. So they opened the gig with Under My Thumb<\/em> of the former, and they closed with Ring of Fire<\/em> of the second, in the middle old generational anthems signed by SD.<\/p>\n

Massive ending with Metallica<\/strong>: what to say, they will be old but live always show a certain charm ranging in a setlist that touches four decades. Opening with Whiplash<\/em> is definitely a declaration of intents, as are executions of Harvest of Sorrow<\/em> and Fight Fire With Fire<\/em>. Some songs from the last twenty years pleasantly struck me (Moth Into Flame<\/em>), some others left me perplexed. Pleasant surprises from Reload<\/em> (The Memory Remains<\/em>, Fuel<\/em>) and assault closure with Seek & Destroy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The curtain falls in a Huber taxi ride to Greyound station to continue the experience in the US a bit outsider, a bit off the beaten path. Rock and roll is their business, nothing to say! The appointment is for Welcome to Rockville 2022 in May: Kiss, Korn, Guns N’ Roses and Foo Figheters have already been confirmed.<\/p>\n
